Yes, medical examination can easily detect if the hymen is broken. But hymen could have been broken due to masturbation too which is an act that many girls indulge in.

I painted my walls a color. This is the absolute best thing I did, even though my lease says I can't paint the walls (hey, they can easily go back to white later!). I admit that I was color-phobic, but a friend first coerced me into trying an off-white, which I think was Benjamin Moore linen white. It made a huge huge huge difference. But it was still subtle. Now, five years later, I have graduated to a serious butter yellow, and when the light is right (which is at about 3 p.m.these days), this room positively glows. My hallway is a sage green, my kitchen a celadon/mint green. My bathroom was a grey-blue, but that seemed too dark, especially since there's no natural light. I just repainted it a very pale pink and it has really opened the space up, although I must admit that I had to be talked into it by an interior designer friend.

People in USA generally love love the pared down, more minimalist look and that's popular now. Rooms with very well edited furniture in simple but relatively timeless shapes. I find these rooms, when done properly, to be very serene, but also very cozy. Make sure you keep the budget in your mind before indulging in home decoration and stuff.

I would say first visit the friend or family home and make sure what they get designed is opt for your home too. Sometimes, due to space constraints people come up with unique ideas which may or may not be feasible for you. So, its always better to think twice before indulging with your existing home design. In case you are not very sure always consult your home decorator/designers.

A common mistake in designing or decorating any room is buying into one singular "look" or "style." Going completely art deco, or completely floral or completely anything (especially when curtains, upholstery and bedding all match!) just doesn't work. Rooms done this way often end up looking like a showroom or an advertisement instead of a place inhabited by actual people.

This often happens when people do not have enough confidence in their own tastes to mix and match and balance out different elements of looks they like. I'm not sure how to gain confidence in this arena. You could keep re-arranging and re-styling, locking yourself in your home for a month, until you're more confident with what you've created. More realistically, look at magazines and books for ideas. Rip out pictures of rooms you like, then try to copy that look in your own home. If you've got cash to burn, hire a designer to take you through the process.

Today's homes are more pared down, less fussy. Gone are the swags, gone is the overabundance of gold leaf. Overabundance, in general, is out. Very '80s, and that is not a good thing. I wouldn't say it's all about minimalism, but it is certainly about a pared-down, more serene aesthetic, free of clutter. The glamour is still there, it's just more understated, less glitzy.

Will it last? It's hard to say, as everything tends to go in cycles. For example, furniture from the '50s and '60s is HOT HOT HOT right now. You just can't touch the prices, especially for vintage pieces. However, a few years ago, these items were much less expensive. Overall the pieces are truly classic, within a certain aesthetic. Art deco pieces could also be considered classic, as could Shaker, it just depends which version of classic you like. So all I can say is, stay-tuned.

Katie on "General Questions & Guidelines for PAP Test"

Can we pass up the Pap?

The American Cancer Society (ACS) issued new guidelines in November for cervical cancer screening, and the bottom line is good news indeed--fewer Pap tests per lifetime! I think you'll agree that the less brushing, scraping, and sweeping of the cervical surface, the better. The updated recommendations include:

1. Screening should begin within three years after a woman begins having vaginal intercourse, but no later than age 21.

2. Women who are 70 years of age and older, with three or more normal Pap test results and no abnormal results in the last ten years, may choose to pass on the Paps altogether.

3. Women who are 30 years old and have had three consecutive normal Pap tests can reduce their screening frequency to every 2 or 3 years.

4. Women who have had a hysterectomy for any reason other than cancer or precancer do not need to mess with Pap tests at all unless their cervix was left behind.

One of the problems with annual Pap test screening, particularly with the highly sensitive, liquid-based tests, is the frequency of "false positive" tests. Follow-up of abnormal Pap tests, most of which revert to normal without treatment, creates unnecessary expense and anxiety. Dr. Mary Simmond, the national volunteer president of the ACS, notes, "The new guidelines will have a major impact on the number of women who are over-screened and over-treated."
_______________

Works great, less expensive

Hot new research, just released in November, suggests that it's time for a second look at one of the oldest available treatments for hypertension. Antihypertensive and Lipid-Lowering Treatment to Prevent Heart Attack Trial (ALLHAT) researchers conducted an eight-year long study on over 33,000 subjects with hypertension and at least one other risk factor for coronary disease. They expected top results from a medication called lisinopril (brand name Zestril or Prinvil) which inhibits the body's production ofa potent vasoconstrictor called angiotensin. Instead, they found that good old, inexpensive, water pills (chlorthalidone, a diuretic similar to Dyazide or HCTZ) did a better job of lowering blood pressure, and, most importantly, decreased the six-year combined rates of stroke, heart attacks, and heart failure, compared with lisionopril. Furthermore, the trusty little diuretic blew another study drug called Norvasc, an expensive vasodilator, out of the water with respect to preventing heart failure. A fourth medication initially included in ALLHAT, the alpha blocker doxazocin or Cardura, was booted from the trial
when preliminary results indicated a significant increase in bad heart outcomes with the use of this medication compared to the diuretic.

Study authors concluded that "since a large proportion of participants required more than one drug to control their blood pressure, it is reasonable to infer that a diuretic be included in all multidrug regimens, if possible."

And that's pretty strong language for a scientist.
_______________

Ring in the New Year, wring out the salt!

"Once-a-day diuretics may be a better health dose than once-a-day vitamins for our nutrient-rich society," says Dr. Lewis Kuller of the University of Pittsburgh. While he notes that hypertension is preventable by decreasing intake of table salt, he believes it unlikely that Americans would be willing to change their behavior and chuck their seasoning. As a result, he calls for a pharmacologic solution for our inability to to curb this "common source" epidemic. In other words, if we're too weak to use less salt, wring it out of us with drugs.

No more putting patients in a pinch

Just in case you and your gynecologist decide that annual Paps are still appropriate for you, here's important news to ease your mind and other parts. For years, pathologists have believed that the use of lubricant on the speculum at the time of Pap testing would smear results and decrease accuracy. Clinicians in California and Washington have now inserted results of two trials into the medical literature and have found that it matters not (unless it happens to be your vagina involved) whether water-soluble gel is applied to the specula during examination. It is comforting to know that the lubricant myth has officially slipped into obscurity.
_______________

Statins provide new hope for ailing mice

California mice welcomed results of a new study which indicates that Lipitor reduces the incidence of mousy multiple sclerosis (MMS) and actually reverses established disease. MMS (also known as experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis) is similar to the human variety of the disease wherein a misguided immune response turns against the nerve cells in the central nervous system, causing their malfunction and ultimate destruction.

Statins such as Lipitor are known to temper immune responses independent of their cholesterol-lowering effects, and researchers predict that these drugs may also have a therapeutic role in other autoimmune diseases such as diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis. While mouse results don't always reflect human response, trials of statins in humans with MS are currently underway.

The maximum is usually five days, and only if you have optimal cervical mucus, which is eggwhite or watery. Sperm last longer in that fluid, which peaks shortly before ovulation. If you have recently menstruated, or are due to again soon, sperm probably won't last more than a day or two, if they make it past the hostile cervial fluid you have the rest of the month.
It is difficult to answer as whether pregnancy occurs immediately after sex. It depends on various factors i.e. ovulation etc.

Fertilization happens in one of the fallopian tubes, which carries an egg from an ovary to the uterus. It can take up to seven days after intercourse for sperm and egg to join and become a fertilized egg. Usually, it's because the sperm gets into the fallopian tube before the egg is released.

It takes about two hours to make the entire journey to the egg; however, some sperm are Olympic swimmers and can reach the egg in a half an hour. If no egg is available to fertilize, the sperm swim around patiently waiting to bump into one. Because there is no chemical or physical attraction of the sperm for the egg, the sperm literally must bump into the egg. However, it can reach much sooner than that too.

Home made options are far better than any chemical creams. Tomatoes have the best anti oxidant properties and its natural isn't it?

If you are happy with your boyfriend and life is moving fine why you want to put the relationship in fix. Marriage is a piece of paper and if guy really loves you he will surely marry you one day. Just wait for the right time.
Don't give him hints that you are thinking about marriage and don't give any reason to him for breakup. All you need to do is enjoy your life and precious time with him rather worrying about something which is not in your hand. Always keep in mind if he is simply flirting he isn't worth marrying anyways.

You know i am also in a relationship with my girl friend but if she come and suddenly ask i think i will end my relationship because i haven't thought about it yet. I am not saying same thing would happen but you won't know when is THE RIGHT TIME for a boy to commit towards marriage.

Yeah! that's true but how would you know the right time? what if he takes forever? I don't want him to rush for a decision but there must be some time limit its already more than 2 year you know.

I think you should wait and give your boy friend some time to think over everything before committing. You won't want him to take a half hearted decision. Don't you?
